What's the best way to career-transition?

• What's the best way to career-transition? What's the best way to career-transition? I was laid off from my old job, and now i KNOW i want to do something else. I was a programmer, but i wanna do something else. How should i go about transitioning my career? Should i first find a job n my old field and then somehow get training for the new profession simultaneously (which sounds really hard, almost impossible, esp because i am a single mom with small children), or should i get at least some training for the new profession NOW that i am unemployed, and after receiving at least some value of training, i could either go back to option 1., or try to get opportunities/ more training in the new field?

  See if you can find a job you want with on-the-job training; this way you're paid while you learn. Go back to school and get the education needed for your new career, then look for a job. Perhaps you can attend school and work part-time. Be sure what you want to do is an area with employment opportunities.
