What do you think about sales people?

Selling carrer. what do people think about people in sales?

  • I want to start a sales carrer. Do people have strong opinions (both postive and negative) about salesmen as a whole?

    I worked in Gift, Home Decor and party sales for the last 20 years and it was a great experience. I had great customers who I developed a wonderful rapport with which increased their sales and mine as well. Many of my customers over the years became great friends. They often recommended me to other companies. It's hard work. You have to know your product and understand who to sell it to and how much. A good salesperson qualifies their customers and never sells them what they do not need or could not sell. I loved it and would look forward to getting back into the industry when we move. You have to decide what type of outside sales would be best for you. Do you prefer to sell tangibles or intangibles? There are a myriad of sales jobs out there and they are all different. I wouldn't, for instance, sell insurance but many are good at that. I like repeat visits to customers and not one time shots.

to me it depends on the approach. I am in sales and I am irritated at pushy, agressive sales people because it makes everyone who is in sales look bad. To me, its ok if you are 100% passionate about your product and proud of your company. If you can be real ... and not try any strange gimmicks... you can do find. Sales is the most honorable career because in sales, you have to learn sooo much about people in order to be good. to be successful you need to be dedicated to getting good. But its totally worth it. Just think.. somebody sold you on your shoes, car, house, food on your table, etc... if there were no sales, the world would stop. Salespeople are good for the economy and the best stimulus packet arround now days. The only income you can truely control is commission based sales... which to the lazy is a bad thing...and to the dedicated is a HUGE life changing thing.,
