How many seasons of Law and Order are there?

I want to start watching Law and Order, but there are too many seasons. Which season should I start.?

I love the very early seasons that started in the 1990s. It was rough, funny and much more interesting than now. Jerry Orbach and Chris Noth as partners crack me up. I also liked George Dzundza (sp?) with Chris Noth. In the early ones, they didn't follow "formula" like they do now. I would say start at the beginning and enjoy! I quit watching after Benjamin Bratt quit.

You have to start at the beginning of any show, besides Chris Noth was so young and gorgeous! I quit watching the show when anthony anderson came to the show. I still enjoy the reruns though.

I agree with jad62, it's not the type of show you have to know exactly what's going on with everything. Just jump in wherever - watch reruns, what have you... I love Law & Order: SVU, and all I watch are re-runs, you can figure out all the sub-plot pretty quick just by listening to what the characters say and how they relate to one another.
