Why won't my questions show up?

I love the television show Lost, but why are there so many questions unanswered? (Warning: Spoiler)?

  • Lost is an amazing television show, definitely one of my favorites. Though I'm not the best at finding the "Easter Eggs," I enjoy theorizing what will happen next. I even have bets (no more than $5) with my father about some of the events that happen in the show - though usually neither of us will be right, and the bet will be invalidated. The thing that disturbs me most about the show is that there are so many questions they've not only left unanswered, but that they've completely ignored - possibly in hopes that the fans will forget about these questions as the new ones arise. I'd like some theories as to the answers to old and new questions. Here's the list: 1) Why are there polar bears on the island? I'm assuming it has something to do with the magnetic poles and the electromagnetism that causes the island to "move," but what exactly? 2) Why are Jacob and "the smoke monster" (a.k.a. "evil incarnate," "the dark man," etc.) at odds with each other? Why did "the smoke monster" need to kill Jacob? 3) Whatever happened to the statue of Anubis, God of the Dead? Is there significance in the statue? Is there significance in the fact that only the foot - or the specific foot (I'm not sure whether it's left or right) - remains? 4) Why does "the smoke monster" choose to take on the form of John Locke, even after everybody knows that John Locke is dead? 5) Who are the people who were on the second airplane that crashed that sought out John Locke's coffin and body to prove to everybody that he was dead? And who is this woman who appears to be their leader? 6) Why can Hugo (a.k.a. Hurley) see dead people if Jacob never even touched him (I watched each episode with Jacob several times and determined this to be a fact)? How is Hugo able to go onto the island if he was never touched by Jacob? 7) Is the entire show an allegory for a concept much larger than us, such as the struggle between God and the Devil, or, even more abstractly, good and evil? 8) Who was the boy who appeared out of thin air in front of "the smoke monster" (in John Locke form) and told him (paraphrased) "You know the rules. You can't kill Jacob." Is he a referee in a game between Jacob and "the smoke monster?" 9) It is apparent that the "Others" serve Jacob faithfully, under the guidance of a leader (who used to be Benjamin Linus) and an advisor (who used to be Richard, "the guy with the eyeliner."). If these people serve Jacob, who are these "'OTHER' Others" that reside in the temple. I believe they do not serve Jacob, but exist either to protect Jacob, protect the island, prevent "the smoke monster" from succeeding in his evil(?) plans, or monitor the "game" between Jacob and "the smoke monster." Is this safe to believe? Do these "'Other' Others" collaborate with the "Others?" 10) Why were the "Others" taking children from the plane crash survivors' campsite? I recall in one episode Walt, one of the children, told his father that they made him take tests of some sort. Two of the children that were taken were also at the temple with the "'Other' Others." Why is this? 11) Why do women who become pregnant on the island die if they remain on the island through their third trimester? Does this relate to the electromagnetic activity, the hydrogen bomb, or neither? 12) How exactly are people (two prime examples are Sayid and Claire) "claimed?" Is this a mark of "the smoke monster" equivalent to Jacob's touch which brought so many people to the island? 13) (Largely forgotten question): After the Oceanic Six returned safely to the mainland in their time period, and Sawyer (a.k.a. James), Miles, Juliet, and Jin remained on the island to work for the Dharma Initiative in the 1970s, there were still dozens of Oceanic survivors who had yet to have anything happen to them. Where did they go? They can't have just disappeared, because three of them - Vincent (the golden retriever), Rose, and Bernard - were found on the island in the 1970s, living in peace and solitude. So what happened to them? These are the major questions I can think of, and I'd appreciate your input and theories. Spoilers are acceptable, though I'd prefer if you labeled it a spoiler before you started writing.

  • Answer:

    1) The polar bears were on the island because the dharma initiative were doing tests on them, they also had a shark that they tested on. The shark is seen in season one or two when michael and sawyer are in the ocean after the "others" take walt. If you look closely when it swims by you can see the dharma symbol on it. 2) This has not been answered yet and is one of the biggest questions. 3) Its not anubis it the statue of Taweret, the fertility goddess. It is still unknown what has happened to it. 4) This I am unsure about, i believe it is because Locke was dead when he entered the island. I also think that Jack's father was the smoke monster before Locke because he also entered the island dead. 5) They were all chosen by Jacob to come to the island to help him protect the "candidates". 6) Lol, I have no idea, I never noticed that he was not touched. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that he was the only other one beside Locke and Ben who saw the cabin. Maybe it has something to do with the numbers. 7)I believe so, that is the biggest question i think. I think it is a christian struggle, God Vs. Satan. And im not sure that Jacob is "good" and the smoke monster is "Bad". Jacob has never really been truthful with anyone and has made people do things for him which is a evil trait. The smoke monster has always been straight forward about what it is doing and lets people choose whether to come with it or not. Then again the smoke monster has been refereed to as Cerberus which in christian belief is evil. 8) I have no idea 9)I believe they are all the same others just served different purposes. The original others were out of the temple to protect the island where as the "temple others" were supposed to protect Jacob. But again this has never been confirmed. 10) I think it was to preserve the "others" since they were not able to conceive children. Someone needs to take over after they die, except Richard of course. 11)Its possible the electromagnetic activity is causing this, but i think it is because Jacob decides who comes to the island. You cant be born on it. 12)**SPOILER** They both had an important job to do before they died, maybe it is because they have achieved what is necessary for them to "leave" the island IE. turning off the beacon, "killing" Jacob. 13)**SPOILER** They were killed by flaming arrows. I honestly think it is a conflict between heaven and hell. But i am unsure who is God or Satan is. Look on Lostpedia.com, it has many theories to what is going on.

Check out the link. It should address some of your issues. Sometimes the writers dig themselves into a hole and then try to either gloss over it, patch it up somehow or just forget about it (which doesn't really work when you have an audience that watches so intently season after season). It sucks, but the big picture is whats important and that's what's going to get addressed.

1.DHARMA was experimenting with climate and zoology, and it's implied they were first used to test moving the island. The mover ends up in Tunisia (Ben and Locke did) and Charlotte found a bear skeleton. 2.They'll be explained later probably, it's one of the main themes this season, many thing Jacob was imprisoning Smokey there. 3.It's actually been confirmed to be Taweret, the Egyptian goddess of fertility, which may link to the problem of the pregnant women dying, but men's sperm count doubling. 4. Not everybody did, the time travellers didn't and it seems to be about Jacob/MIB conflict, part of MIB's plan with the loophole to kill Jacob. And according to Ileana he's stuck like that now, and Smokey hasn't actually taken the form of someone we know is living. (maybe Harper or Walt, but it's unclear) 5.Ileana, she leads Jacob's bodyguards, and now she's the only one left to protect the candidates for his job. They sought the body to prove Locke wasn't actually Locke anymore. She was really close to him, "the closest thing she ever had to a father" she said. 6. He was, in the taxi just before he went back to the island, Jacob touched his shoulder just before he got out of the cab. How.why Hurley can see/speak to the dead is unknown. 7.Lostpedia has a whole article on this! 8.We don't know yet, he will be explainerd, most people think it's a young Jacob or like me, a version of Aaron, he had bloody palms, like Claire after her dream in Season 1, search the scene on Youtube. 9.They are the same group, Ben had Richard take his group their in Season 3, when he was giving Alex to the survivors, and trying to get Jack not trying to contact the freighter. About 15 of them chose to jon the Smoke Monster, rather then be killed by it after Sayid delievered the ultimatum, and said Jacob is dead. Those that aren't with Smokey are all dead now, except for Richard and Ben. 10. Walt has some kind of powers they haven't answere yey. The two from the tail-section (that are with Smokey now) were probably taken so the Others would live on, their imports have been down, and their only about 15 of them left now anyway. 11.Probably Taweret and/or the hydrogen bomb, but it hasn't been explained yet. 12.Sayid seemed to be when he drowned in the pool, now tainted with black. Claire *might* have died too in Season 4, when the house she ws in was blown up by the mercenaries from the freighter, and Smokey kept them from dying, and/or it could just be from listening to and siding with Smokey. Sayid was touched by Jaco too, the touch doesn't claim them for jacob, it may make them ageless like Richard, and they can's commit suicide. Richard thought jack could blow him up, but since Jack stayed, he would have been blown up too, killing himself, so the fuse went out. 13.We just assume they all died in the flaming arrow attack, Bernard said arrows were coming down "killing everyone they knew." And they're nameless people, not important to bring back anyway. Rose, Bernard and Vincient will probably be back though.
