How can I have lucid dreams and control them?

What is up with these lucid dreams that I can't control?

  • These dreams started a few months ago, and it rarely happens. Last night was the second time. They scare me because in the dream, I'm laying down in the same position I remember myself laying down on my bed(I'm practically on my bed), and I can't move at all. The first dream was me laying in my bed in my room with the moonlight coming through my window(it actually was before I went to sleep). I couldn't move, and for some reason I could not breathe. I knew that I was dreaming, and was afraid that if I died in my dream that I would die in real life. I begged God to allow me to wake up from the dream, and I always did. (I kept slipping into that dream multiple times that night). Last night, I was, once again, dreaming of myself laying down without being able to move. But this time, I could breathe, but I felt as if some sort of evil presence was around me. In my lucid dreams my imagination can get really out of control so I felt as if hell was nearby. And, sure enough, the area that was my bedroom slowly turned into a large cavern with lava all around me. Then, all of a sudden it started to go away as a bright light shone and it faded as a funny-looking door that looked like something out of a fantasy RPG game or something appeared and two men in togas were on either side of it. They looked as if they were about to open the door, but I could not tell if it was for me or for something else because the dream ended before I could get a hint of anything else. I'm afraid of these dreams because both times I felt like I was going to die. Pretty much the only thing I could move were my eyes and nothing else. I even went out of the box with trying to imagine myself having super strength or something to allow me to move but it didn't work. I want to know if I need help or if these dreams are not harmful. Please, and thank you.

  • Answer:

I have had similar dreams before, but only about thrice in my life-time, if I were you I wouldn't be exactly scared but I would be concerned, I would talk to three people A. Your Doctor and tell him what you have been dreaming about ask him/her if you he/she thinks you need to see a therapist B. Talk a religious figure if your Muslim an Imam, Jewish a Rabbi, Christian a Priest, and ask them what these dreams could mean, it may be God trying to tell you something C. Talk to a therapist even if your doctor says not to, schedule at least one appointment just to consult him/her on the issue Hope this helps

Hi DY I used to have a series of these type of dreams, and eventually I talked about them with a therapist - not a very good one i might add - but it did get me to think about them in a different situation. What I ended up concluding is that I wish I had gone through the exit (window in my case). So the next time I had the dream, my only urge when I realised I was somewhere in the presence of 'evil' was to get through that exit pronto! The dream landscape changed over the course of the next half an hour but ended up with flight and good energy. Perhaps your prayer is to be answered in the only language that God knows how on the dream level - by symbology - and you will too have an urge to go through that exit - to wake up from the ignorant sleep of death. Breath certainly represents spirit and therefore the life that allows us to move in the worlds. Imagine yourself going through the door, though you need not worry about what is on the other side. Have a good feeling about what is there, and that will suffice. This is one way for you to have some control of the direction of the dream and its flavour. Your desire to have more control of the dream probably indicates a desire to be able to have a greater effect on your waking dreamlife. All the best e.g.

You can train yourself to work with your lucid dreams and control them. http://www.world-of-lucid-dreaming.com/ This website is great, and lucid dreams are often used to help people overcome nightmares (I know it helped me a ton). These dreams are in no way harmful because they're exactly that, dreams. Now, sleep paralysis is what keeps us from moving in our sleep while we're dreaming (i.e- you're running in your dream). You may have been stuck in SP and not realized because your body thought you were asleep but your mind was awake and then slipped into a dream when you thought you were in hell. Read that website and google search other lucid dreaming techniques and they can help you overcome nightmares and control yourself and your dreams. :) Good luck!
