What gaming headset should I get?

I play on 360 and do long gaming sessions. I play competitively as well. I like over the ear such as Turtle Beach x11 (my current headset) rather than on the ear. I was checking out Astros A30s but its on the ear and I don't think I would like that. My boyfriend wants A40s, but I don't wanna make him pay for two sets of A40s because that is way expensive. I'm guessing my limit is no more than 220 dollars. Thanks.
