Why won't my PC game work?

Why wont this old game work on my new pc?

  • I'm trying to install a game that came out in 1997 on my brand new Toshiba laptop. Some strange things happen when the game is trying to install as well. First it gives me a message saying 2x CD ROM drive and Windows 95 not met. It will say installation complete but when I try to play it says I don't have DirectX 3a but I do have the latest version of DirectX installed which should have 3a built in. I've tried compatibilty mode but all it does is make the game setup screem lod real slow and then just completely kicks me out of it. So can someone please help me?

  • Answer:

What game is it? A lot of old games that came out before Windows NT will not work on NT-based systems like Windows XP and up. Edit: It's a 16-bit game trying to run on a 64-bit system. As far as I know, DOS only emulates DOS games and not old 16-bit games. There's also something called "Windows XP Mode", but it only works on Ultimate, Professional and Enterprise versions of Windows 7. You could try installing 32 bit Ubuntu using WUBI then installing WINE after that's done to see if you can run it.
