Should I record PC gameplay with a HD PVR or FRAPS?

  • I have recently discovered that you can record PC gameplay with a HD PVR. Now, I have always recorded my videos with FRAPS and as a result I can't record CPU heavy games due to the framerate loss while recording. So I'm asking if it is better to record with a HD PVR or just to stick with FRAPS? And if it is better to use a HD PVR how would I go about doing it? As in, how do I hook it up so it is ready to record with?

    To record a game in high quality, you have to use DirectX/OpenGL hooking program like Bandicam or Fraps. I prefer to use Bandicam because it's easy to use, and much less lag than Fraps. Also, you can upload the recorded file to YouTube without converting because the recorded file is much smaller than Fraps. for examples) - Fraps: 300MB - Bandicam: 15~25MB

Hd pvr and fraps have about similar quality in most cases, but from my experience fraps has a bit better quality. So I would recommend that if you have a good computer you should definitely go for fraps but if you get to high fps loss go for hd pvr. Btw when recording fraps on full quality the file size is like 1gb per minute. With hd pvr you can connect hdmi to the pvr the USB cable from the pvr to another pc or you can plug it to your pc and run the program in the background but again it might slow down your games if you run the recording program in the background. So if you have 2 pc one to play and one to record use pvr but if you need to run the pvr recording on the background I would say you are better off with fraps.
