Can I buy used PC games? (Crysis Maximum Edition)?

Hi. I found a good deal on amazon for a used version of Crysis Maximum Edition but I'm not sure if I can install it because the serial key was already used.

Except in cases like World of Warcraft, where the CD key binds to your account, the CD key is generally used only for installation purposes (to make sure you didn't pirate a copy off the internet). It will prohibit you from product registering, if the original owner already registered, and in some cases that will prohibit you from downloading free content and patches (such as the case with The Sims 3). When in doubt, contact the seller, find out what the CD key is used for and what their return policy is if it doesn't install.
