PS3 Does not recognize external hard drive?

How to make PS3 recognize external USB hard drive?

  • I've got a original 60gb PS3. I've already upgraded the hard drive to 160gb once, now I need to go to 500gb. I've got an external USE drive enclosure with a 500gb drive that I want to use for a system backup. However, nothing I've tried works as far as getting the PS3 to recognize the device. The device works fine on Windows and a Mac. I've verified with different programs that's it's formatted with FAT32 (using guiformat and Partition Wizard) Everything seems fine, but when I plug it into my PS3, the drive light flickers once, then nothing. No drive activity, nothing new shows up, I can't use the backup utility, etc. I'm really at a loss here...I'd swear I've done everything right, but I just can't get it to work.

  • Answer:

I use format32.exe (search google) and use the ms-dos windows (cmd) and use the command ex; put the format32.exe into your drive C: and type format32.exe X: (where X is your target drive) *what i do.. is format b4 my drive with ntfs with windows format just to let the system recognize
