How do you get an American PS2 to play UK PS2 games?

yes you can, you have to mod/hack it by using a modchip and configure your ps2 i hope you have the fat one cuz it would me more harder and i takes more time on the slim since i got fat one on november or december 2002 for my 5th b day on june 2002 but we had to wait though but we were alos getting the newest psone which was still selling with the ps2 but we returned it cuz my dad said it's better to get the ps2, so i got it with harry potter chamber of secrets video game and when we went to pakistan in late 2005, i want to bring my ps2 and my dad bought me some pal games at a store there so we hacked the ps2 with its modchip then my dad and i took a few hours to do it and it was worth waiting, it'll work on yours too, i'm planning to do some others hacks like the hdd loader and hdadvance and putting linux with a windows operating system, they're more hacks too you can check on youtube or google for tutorials, also my aunt's gonna give me a ps3 slim with gran turismo 5 and cod black ops for my 14th bday by this june since she gave her cousin a ps2 slim toy story 3 bundle last month, hopes this will help you
