My PSP suddenly turned off?

Is the PSP suppose to automatically read the UMD discs once inserted and turned on.?

  • I'm a mom and not tech savvy when it comes to these things. The PSP 3000 is used. When I start it up, it makes a rickety sound but I cannot do anything on it. I do not know how to start a game or a movie. Is the PSP broken?

  • Answer:

Only if that option is already set. Go to the settings and check to see if the UMD auto-play is enabled. Otherwise just select the UMD game or video. That "rickety" sound you hear may just be the UMD drive. If it's just plain not working (reading UMDs), then it's possible the UMD drive is broken somehow. EDIT: Then my guess is the UMD drive is broken somehow and the PSP needs serviced or replaced.
