How do I update my PS3?

How do i get 4.0 software update on my ps3 without sending it to sony?

  • i just got a new hard drive and my ps3 will not format my hard drive because the 4.0 software update is not available. i downloaded the 4.0 software update to my computer and put it on a usb flash drive and tried pluging that into the ps3 to update it, but it still says connect stroage media with an update. what do i do i just spent 100 dollars on a hard drive can i still fix it on my own?

  • Answer:

In order for the PS3 to see the Update, you MUST put it in the correct folders, which the Firmware Update page tells you, and even shows you EXACTLY how to do: http://us.playstation.com/support/systemupdates/ps3/pc_update/index.htm You must put the Firmware Update into a PS3 folder, then an UPDATE folder. Both folders names MUST be in capital letters, or the PS3 will not read the update. external media device > PS3 > UPDATE > firmware update file (the above link shows the exact same example).

Bring this question to sony, as i did same thing with a 500gb drive, except it worked fine. and either way, sony should answer your question quite fully, considering they support larger harddrives and help people use them with their console, and their software. sony's awesome like that :D
