Why cant i hear any sound when i try to watch a video or movie from my external hard drive with my PS3?

The PS3 can only play these audio files: •Memory Stick Audio Format(ATRAC) •MP3 - MPEG-1/2 Audio Layer3 - MP3 Surround •MP4(MPEG-4 AAC) •WAVE(Linear PCM) •WMA If you don't have the right audio file on the video file, then that is your problem. You can convert the video file use PS3 Video 9 (free download - http://www.redkawa.com/videoconverters/ps3video9/ ), which will take awhile, or you can convert the audio file using audio editing software (like Nero, not free). If the audio file is in the correct format, you can try resetting the PS3 (this will not delete anything, but it will reset everything back to default, so if you have a custom wallpaper/theme, you will have to set it again: XMB > Settings > System Settings > Restore Default Settings ), which usually fixes any of these problems.
