How do i hook up my ps3 to surround sound?

• i can not hook it up with opical cord because my surroun sound dont have hook up for it and i go to hdmi hook ups on the tv one on dvd player and one on the ps3 i would like to hook my ps3 to the surround sound with hdmi quality if anyone has any ansewers please contact me as soon as possiable

  First, you must be using a Home Theater system that has an AV Receiver. If you do not have an AV Receiver, you will not be able to get surround sound on from your PS3. (It is possible to use an Audio Receiver only) A DVD surround sound system is NOT a Home Theater system, and will not work. You MUST use a Component Home Theater system that uses an AV Receiver. I hope it is clear that you need a Component Home Theater system with an AV Receiver, not a DVD surround sound system, they are two different things. Once you have the correct Home Theater system, depending on your AV Receiver, you will be able to use an Optical cable, or an HDMI cable. Here is how you would hook it up: HDMI cable - HDMI cable will go from the PS3 to the AV Receiver IN Port, then a second HDMI cable will go from the AV Receiver OUT Port to the TV IN Port. Optical cable - Optical cable will go from PS3 to AV Receiver (or Audio Receiver) IN Port. The Video Cables can be hooked up two different ways, depending on the Receiver being used. You can hook the PS3 up to the Receiver, then to the TV, or you can hook the PS3 Video straight up to the TV. Tell me the surround sound setup you have, and I can tell you exactly how to hook it up (again, a DVD surround sound system will NOT work).
