Can i take out the hard drive on a fat ps3 and put it on another fat ps3?

ok so i have a ps3 that got the yellow light of death, and i have completed ALMOST all my games and i dont wanna lose my memory sooo im goin to buy another fat ps3 not the slim ps3 , so i was woundering if i could take the hard drive out of the ps3 that had the yellow light of death and just simply put it in the new ps3 i got....and will i still have all my memory or not? thanks for reading!

Answer:
Unfortunately no. As soon as you put the old drive into another PS3 it will ask to format it and this step is unavoidable.
