Ps3 'the attempt to obtain an IP address timed out'?

My PS3 cannot obtain IP address?

  • It has been working fine since i got it for Christmas, I just got a new router and the router works fine with my iPhone but when i try to set it up with my PS3 it says that it cannot obtain the IP address. There were a couple times when the IP address and internet connection succeeded during the test and the playstation network failed and on the next test everything failed. Is there some thing wrong with my system?

    Look for a little button on the side of your router that looks kinda like a refresh button. Press it and try again. If that doesn't work get an Ethernet cable, you'll always have 100% strength and it'll work

Sounds to me like you're trying to use a WPA key instead of WEP.

It doesn't sound like your router is compatible with the PS3. I suppose you can try to find the IP address of the router and manually enter it into the PS3's connection Settings, but even then it may not pass the connection test. Who makes your router? and what model number is it?
