Do all playstation 3's play playstation 2 disc?

  • hi my friend has a playstation 3 but his looks weird and i tried to play a playstation 2 game on it but it wouldnt work it said something like this playstation does not support the format you are trying to play or something so do some playstation 3's not playstation 2 games? and if not is there a way to get them to play?

    I've never heard that all PS3s play PS1 games...but Chad is right, only those specific models can play PS2 games, and even then they're not always 100% compatible with PS2 games, some won't work properly. I have one of the 80GB models that can play PS2 games, and a couple games I've got won't properly work. Thus the reason I actually have a PS2 (Slim at that).

Only the early models are able to run ps2 games , and no thiers no way of running them . Early models like the 60gb version

All PS3's play PS1 games. Only the following PS3 models were capable of playing PS2 games, but all of these models were discontinued well over two years ago. 20 GB - CECHBxx, released 2006 60 GB - CECHAxx released 2006 80 GB - CECHExx released mid 2007 60 GB - CECHCxx PAL
