How do you play PS2 games online with PS3 80gb?

My 80GB PS3 won't play PS2 games?

  • I have an old 80GB PS3 with 4 USB slots. I'm also using an HDMI cable with an LG 42" TV. My system plays PS3 games, DVDs, and Blu-Rays with no problem. Whenever I try to play a PS2 game, the screen goes all glitchy, but I can hear the sound just fine. I know there's a compatibility list or something, but I thought these old ones played all the games? I tried a compatible game anyway, and it still didn't work. No games are working. I tried downloading the "PS2 System Data" thing from the PSN as well. Help!

  • Answer:

The 80 GB model with 4 USB ports should be able to play most PS2 games, about 90% or so. The older 20/60 GB models have full hardware backward compatibility and about 99% work. Try connecting using the red/white/yellow standard def cables when playing a PS2 game, since those are only standard def anyway. Maybe something between the LG, PS3 and not being handling SD properly is a problem. It should be working, though. There are also some PS2 graphics settings on the System section of the XMB that might help (scaling or whatever).
