How to download games into PSP?

I'm having a bit of a problem with downloading games into PSPs. Do you really need Custom Firmware to get games into your PSP? How do you get games into PSPs anyway? What are patches? Anything else I need to know about PSPs and downloading games? Thanks :)

Answer:
you go onto the playstation store through your psp( must be hooked up to the internet) and there might be a system update. there is no custom firmware needed, but they cost money and take a while to download but there still fun
