What's the best PlayStation emulator?

I know the Playstation store has a ps2 emulator but the 160gb ps3 slim does not support it. Does the 320gb ps3?

  • Dose the 250gb ps3 slim support this emulator support it? Also does the 320gb ps3 support it? I have many classic ps2 games and I don't want to lose them. I also don't want to use my ps2 anymore because I don't want it to break down. I know that the ps2 will be a collectable one day and I want it in great shape. Plus i am getting a ps3 to get rid of alot of wires. I plan to put my ps2 in the living room and give my friend my DVD player after I find a ps3 with the latest technology over 120gb that supports ps2 ps1 and ps3. If it supports the Ps2 emulator it good enough.

Nope, only the older PS3 have backwards compatible emulators, the "large" ones (the newer versions are called the PS3 slim). An easy way to tell is if the PS3 is all black, then it's the newer slim version. If it has 4 USB ports and a little hatch that opens (to put in SD cards, memory sticks, etc) and it has line of silver decal on it then it's the older PS3. The older PS3's can support PS2 games. The newer ones cannot, however they do support PS1 games I believe (or at least some). You may download available PS2 games from the PS network store, though there's only like 21, and they're not really that great IMO. It's weird they have like 100 PS1 games to download and only a handful of PS2 games, but w/e. And yeah, your PS2 may be collectible, but it's gonna be a while. Even the N64 and older consoles aren't that collectible, and they're ancient now. If it's brand new in the box though and hasn't been opened, then down the road you may be able to get some serious coin for it, assuming someone's willing to pay that much for it. :P

Only the PlayStation 3 systems featuring 4 USB ports on the front are backwards compatible with 80% of the PlayStation 2 games. The item you saw in the store is what enables these PlayStation 3 systems to run them. Sadly, the 120, 250 and 320GB PS3's do not have 4 USB ports on the front. All of the PlayStation 3 systems can play PlayStation One games. The PlayStation Store has recently been including downloadable PlayStation 2 classics to its large PSone classics selection, you may want to have a look there. Edit: Why the thumbs down? It's the truth.

Collectible? You do NOT know what you are talking about, son. If they were ultra rare and hard to find, maybe... maybe. The PS2? Far and away the most successful and lasting game console EVER. They're still making the things almost 12 years after its release and have sold nearly 150 million units. That's far from being "collectible" with so many out there. You'll most likely be dead before a PS2 fetches any appreciable amount of money.

The PSN Store does not have a PS2 emulator. They do have an item that allows the PS3's hard drive emulate the PS2's hard drive for those few PS2 games that need it, and it is only useful on a PS3 that actually has PS2 emulation built into it. The only PS3s that can emulate the PS2 are the early launch models with 20, 60 and 80 GB hard drives and 4 USB ports. No Slim PS3 can do PS2 emulation. Unless your PS2 is new in box, it likely won't be a collectible. They made tens of millions of them.

no slim plays ps2 games, you need to get a phat if you want to play them on a ps3
