Can I use my computer's hard drive in my ps3?

Is it smarter to use a External Hard Drive for the PS3 Fat than to buy a PS3 Slim?

  • Just bought a PS3 Fat due to Backwards compatibility, I've owned a PS3 slim before, but sold it due to not enough friends playing. So I just purchased a PS3 Fat because I have a lot of PS2 games. But I've noticed that the PS3 Fat runs a bit slower downloading content that the Slim did. I'm just wondering if it may be that, due to the small Hard Drive size, it doesn't run as fast. Just wanting to know if you think this may be a smarter choice (Hard Drive to PS3 Fat < - > PS3 Slim?) I have 7 Days to return it and get a Slim.

    I can guarantee it's not the hard drive size. I have a backwards compatible Fat and my roommates have a Slim and both download at the same rate. It could just be your network settings, since it's a different PS3. As for using an external hard drive, that won't make a difference. You can only use the external for backup purposes, nothing else. So if you want more space you can use directly, get a larger internal HD for the PS3. If you do that, any 2.5" SATA 5400 RPM will do -- you can use 7200 but Sony's recommendation is 5400.

having a smaller hdd won't affect download speeds , that's entirely your internet connection that affects this you also cannot use an external hdd to run games on any ps3 , only an internal hard drive , you can upgrade all ps3's with larger hard drives , fat or slim . they all use the same type of hdd , a 2.5 inch sata running 5400 rpm so you could install a bigger hdd up to 500 gigabytes , but it won't change how fast you can download anything they also use the exact same wifi cards in both models so both should download the same speed , check that your router is setup properly , you can even get slower downloads with wifi because one ps3 was a bit closer to the router and got a better connection

The PS3 does its job well. The controller's battery lasts about 8 hours on a full charge. Console collects dust easily, Durable system that does not overheat. Yeah, with so many titles and more coming out at this price the PS3's features are worth it. You should buy one!

The Playstation 3 is perfect. This will be my second one because I need one for the bedroom. I have a phat ps3 and now a new slim. The slim is much smaller and stealthy quiet. So far I like it more and it stays cleaner looking than the phat but i do miss the touch sensitive buttons. I've owned a ps3 for 4 years with no problems and i love it. great blu ray, best games, surround sound, full hd, and the free psn. Nothing compairs
