Are all PS3 Blu-Ray Drives Interchangeable?

Why won't my ps3 play bluray games? Bluray movies, dvds and cds work.?

  • Games on my ps3 won't work. The disks are recognized, but when I start a game it goes to a black screen or partially loads the game and just freezes. I have around six games, and none of them have worked (some are scratched, but the flawless ones don't work either). This just suddenly started to happen about a month ago. I originally thought that the bluray laser went out, but seeing that bluray movies still work, that's not the problem. Thanks for any help! P.S. My PS3 is out of warranty.

    You are going to have to replace the blu-ray drive. Sony is going to charge you $150 plus tax to fix if your warranty is expired. The same exact thing that happened to you happened to me.

i think you might have a problem with your laser inside that cant read discs info. google some ps3 repair shop by your area and get it fixed for like 60 dollars!! or you can simply sell it and get the slim ps3 which is 120 gb :)

Something to do with the core processor must be broken. It needs to be repaired and it might be costly. Call Sony and ask how much it will cost. You might be better off buying a new one since they went down in price. Or even though the 360 breaks a lot, the warranty lasts like 3 years so maybe that would be a good option for you?

EXACT same thing happened to me. your disc reader burned out and it is the most common thing that happens to ps3s. Luckily you can go out and buy yourself a ps3 slim
