Why cant I connect my ps3 to my PC monitor?
-
I want to be able to connect my ps3 slim to my PC monitor so i can play my ps3 games in HD on my monitor since I dont have an HD TV. I bought a HDMI to DVI adapter and an HDMI cable. I connected the adapter to the DVI port on my monitor and the HDMI cable to the adapter. I then connect the other end of the HDMI to the ps3. I pressed and held to ps3 on button for 5 seconds till I hear the second beep to rest the video settings but nothing happened. I still got the check signal cable sign moving around the screen. I have a pretty new Samsung SyncMaster SA350 monitor with 1600x900 resolution. I know that the HDMI cable and converter are working since I connected my PC to the monitor with this setup and everything works fine. I have tried to change the settings manually, connecting the ps3 to my TV through the composite cables and the monitor at the same time but nothing happens. I change the settings to HDMI and then my TV screen goes black for a few seconds and resets. Nothing happens on the monitor. I am sure the Monitor has HDCP compatibility. I have seen man videos on Youtube using a hdmi to DVi cable which seems to work fine. I myself dont have a single cable but a converter. But I have still seen a few videos which use an adapter and everything works. I really dont see what could be going wrong can someone please help?

Since you said your PC works with the monitor, we can conclude that your monitor is using a digital DVI port. The only real issue left is the HDCP compatibility. Your monitor MUST be HDCP compliant or else it will not be able to display the content from the PS3. If you have a Nvidia graphics card, you can easily see if your monitor is HDCP capable by running the Nvidia Control Panel and clicking on "View HDCP Status" in the Display tab.
In theory this should work as you have it set up. It could be a bad cable or convertor. Try the cable on another TV or monitor, maybe your cable box or something. I have purchased cheap HDMI cables in the past and about 1 in 10 just wont work. But at the super cheap prices it's simple to pick up another and 9/10 have no problems. Hope this helps a little.
