How to update to 2.53 on PS3?

  • Really need some help here... I got my PS3 for Christmas a few days ago, bought the cable for it today, as well as a headset. I set my PS3 up and everything, and it's saying that I have connection to the internet. HOWEVER, every time I try to update to version 2.53, it says this: "An error occurred during the download operation. A connection to the server cannot be established. (80028E01)" What's going on!? Did I buy the wrong cable? Whenever I try the 'test connection' tab on the main screen, it says that I'm connected to the internet, but it STILL won't let me download the 2.53 update for my PS3!! What's going on?? What do I need to do to get the update so I can make a PSN and finally play online?

    You should just go to the playsation 3 update website: http://www.us.playstation.com/support/systemupdates/ps3 (click download now) and transfer it to your ps3 with a flash drive. PS, if you transfer it with a flash drive, you have to make a couple of folders first for it to be able to be installed on the ps3. This is how it should be: Flash Drive > PS3 > UPDATE Make sure that everything is in caps.
