Can the GH3 guitar work for the PS2 Guitar Hero 1 if I insert Guitar Hero I into a PS3?

I just got a newer version of the PS3 and it plays PS2 games. I tried playing Guitar Hero 1 on it but I can only use the controller, as the guitar does not respond, I even replaced the batteries and nothing happened. Does anybody know if you can play GH1 on PS3 with the controller? Help!

Answer:
I only use the controller when played GH haha...The older guitar is probably not supported by the new game.
