Questions about PS3 and Netflix?

Since ps3 slim is going to be 299$, what about the original PS3? I also have other questions about PS3 Slim!?

  • I am really confused about the PS3 slim & the original PS3. Besides looks, and the ability to play PS2 games, what else is different between these two systems? I currently own an xbox 360 & a wii, I am planning on trading both systems for a PS3. Which one should I get? The original PS3 or the PS3 slim? Also, will the PS3 slim be cheaper than the original PS3 or what? Somebody please help me. I don't want to make the wrong decision. Also one last question. Does anybody think the PS3 slim will have any problems with performance? I understand the PS3 slim uses less power, has an updated cooler, but still? Thanks.

  • Answer:

if you live in a house and electcity prices is a problem go with the slim if its not still go with the slim if the slim doesnt wrk you get a brandnew one but with the orinal they will fix it or if they cant send you a broken but fixed one and why dont you want the newer things if in a few months you dont want it you could sell it for a bit more then the phat im not hating on the becus i had one ( sold today) you wont make a wrong decision slim has more memory it has 120 but only 97gb is free to use 80gb has 64 gb to free so its up to you and slim is slimmer and looks kinda better so go wit slim

the ability to play ps2 games is only available on the 60gb version which has been discontinued so it doesnt matter. between the consoles the only difference is that the slim is smaller, lighter, has more hdd space (120gb) and uses less power. some say that the original looks better but thats down to opinion. if you dont care about the looks i would go for the slim due to the reduced power consumption which would save you money on electricity bills. The slim and the original are currently retailing at the same price so there is no difference but the original has been discontinued so no more are being produced. this means that when the stocks are gone there wont be any more. If anything the slim will have a better performance as it uses a new, updated chip which should make it faster than the original but performance wise, at this time no one knows as no one has it until the 1st september.

The original is also dropped to $299 Slim has cooler performance, is lighter, and uses less power. But the original has the ability to run Linux on it and it has 4 USB ports instead of 2

Both are going to be sold for $299.99. Both cannot play Ps2 games, but can play PSOne games.

Here - it'll help you out. http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/18/ps3-slim-sized-up-smaller-deeper-no-linux-or-ps2-compatibilit/ Performance wouldn't matter, the processor has been shrunk so it cranks out same performance at a lower wattage and heat - hence less power and a cooler system.

The Slim has 34 % less weight, 34% reduced size, and 34% less power consumption than the Fatboys 80 and 160. It also does not support installation of a Linux OS and includes a sync feature for Sony BRAVIA TV owners via HDMI. Other that this, they are just like the mentioned Fatboys. A wise consumer would buy the 80 GB (priced the same as the Slim) if available simply because the Slim is unproven in reliability. No one will know for sure if the Slim is equally reliable until its been in the consumer's hands for several months. And by the way, none of these PS3s play PS2 games.
