Is there more screen tearing while playing games on the fat PS3 than the slim PS3?
-
So I've been thinking of getting a PS3 but I cant choose between the fat PS3 or the slim one. I want to get a fat since it looks nicer but on the other hand i want a slim PS3. This is because I've heard from some people that there is more screen tearing while playing games on the original fat PS3 but the slim PS3 has less screen tearing while playing games, since the slim PS3 has an updated GPU and therefore it is more better. Is this true? Ten points for the best answer! If you want to know what screen tearing is head over to this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Tearing_(simulated).jpg

Answer:
I haven't come across any significant screen tearing playing on either my fat or my friends' slim PS3's. There shouldn't be any difference since they use the same RSX graphics chip. I've tried both consoles in several games. So don't worry about tearing: Not an issue. Aesthetic questions aside, I recommend you get the slim because it's quieter and significantly less power hungry than the older model. There will be nice bundles available very soon with the "move" controllers (motion sensors inspired by the Wii but drastically better). If you can't wait look for consoles bundled with a game or two for better value. The Dell site often offers promo days of deals with good bundles too.

it should not make any difference all the same components and motherboard are the same its just a slimmer version
I think it only happened on my fat ps3 once. The game lagged by the way so that might be the reason. But I've had my fat for a year and it's been working great. One of my friend got a fat instead of a slim because they overheat less. Go for a good old Fat man! :) They are prettier. Unless you really want something slim, but it doesn't make a difference for me since I don't have to move it of place to play.
i have had my fat ps3 since a couple weeks after it came out(which was in 2006 i believe). i have never had this problem before. the slim is the same thing as the fat one except its smaller. i would get that one now if i didn't have a ps3, but if you want the slimmer look then its alright to go for the fat one. i don't think that screen tearing happens more on the fat one then the slim one, so just get what you want.
I had the special ed ps3 and now I have the slim. The slim is cooler, uses less juice and is QUIET. The slims upscaler is even better and the price is right. It's heat that degrades components over time. I have never noticed any tearing during games or bluray movies.
