Signal problems with HDMI cable, PS3 and HDTV?

PS3/ HDMI sound problems/ TV? Cable? or PS3?

  • I have an issue that involves my PS3 and possibly my HDMI cable and the HDMI plug-ins on my TV. I just bought a new HDMI cable because I was getting static on my screen and the connection felt loose. The new cable has fixed that problem but now my PS3 has no sound. In addition, I only get a signal from my PS3 on one of my HDMI plug-ins on my TV. My PS3 has sound and video using the red, white, yellow cord that came with PS3 but I am not happy with my resolution. How can I tell if I need a new HDMI cable, if my TV's plugs are bad, or if it is an issue with my PS3 (it is the older "fat" version)? I do not own any other devices other that my PS3 that is HDMI compatable.

  • Answer:

HDMI is for video AND sound, so don't listen to that other guy. First, do a Video Reset. After you do a Video Reset, if you still can't here sound, then do a Restore Default Settings (this doesn't delete anything, it just resets the PS3). If that doesn't fix your problem, then I would say the issue is with the HDMI cable (assuming you had no audio problems with the previous cable). How to do a Video Reset: With the PS3 in stand by mode (red light on front of the PS3), hold the power button down until you hear two beeps (about 5 seconds). The PS3 will turn on and automatically reset giving you the best settings for the type of TV and cable being used. Always do a Video Reset when you change TVs and/or cables to get the best settings for the PS3, and/or when you can't see an image on the screen. Restore Default Settings: XMB > Settings > System Settings > Restore Default Settings (this doesn't delete anything, but if you have a custom wallpaper/theme, etc., you will have to set it up again).

im going to guarantee you the HDMI cord is not sound assailable it only transmits the HD picture, same thing happened to me:( and the "older fat one" looks the best;) js
