Why is my Xbox 360 scratching my disk?

Changing xbox 360 disk drive?

• I have a 2008 xbox 360 elite, Im having disk problems with my new xbox 360 games and I think its because of the new disk update that took place may or april, so if I change my disk drive to a newer xbox 360 model, will my games work?

  what kind of problems are you having exactly? if you are just having trouble getting it to read games (like you have to try it over and over a few times before it works) then you probably just have a laser that is going bad. you can try to calibrate the laser (link included below) or you might have to buy a new laser (only about $10-15). if you just buy a new dvd drive none of your games will work at all because the dvd drive has a "dvd key" store on it, and this has to match the key stored on your xbox or it will just say "play dvd" when you put in a game, and show you the message that happens when you put a 360 game into a dvd player (it tells you to put the game in a 360 lol). if you do buy a new dvd drive instead of just a laser, you can take the circuit board from your old one and switch it with the new one, since the board is where your key is stored. (as long as you use the same brand of dvd drive.) maybe you can buy a dvd drive that just has the mechanics, without a circuit board, so you can just put your board into that. the easiest and best thing to try first of course is turning the power up on your laser a bit. see the tutorial below, and be sure to read it all or you could mess up your laser and then you will need a new one for sure.
