Xbox Live Connection Problem?

Xbox live wired connection problem?

  • I have a linksys cisco e2400 wireless router and use a cat5 cable which is plugged into my xbox and into the router. Then their is another wire, which is old and cord is coming out which is the internet cable that is connected from my router to my modem, and the modem has a cable into the wall. That's the set up. Problem is when I plug the cat5 cable into the router, my xbox live connection is terrible, like 1-2 bars. BUT when I plug the cat5 cable into the modem, my bars are perfect and 5 bars, max connection. Why is it when I plug it into my router, it is so bad? Because of the internet wire or? But when I plug it into the modem, which has 1 slot for a cable, I have to remove the internet cable and put my cat5 cable for my xbox into it, making everyone in the house not connected to internet by computer. I can't do this because I rent the basement. So How can I have a good wired connection but not disconnecting everyones internet? Wireless is terrible for me, 1-2 bars each time so I want a wired connection.

  • Answer:

Direct connection, to the modem, is always better than a connection that splits bandwidth.
