Brand new Xbox 360 game keeps freezing?

Install the game to your hard drive or go back to where you bought it and ask for a new copy, but tell the store manager why it doesn't work.

The Xbox 360 is certainly a powerful piece of hardware, but sometimes there can be issues that cause it to freeze up. If your Xbox does freeze, it is important to find the root cause of the problem so that you can diagnose and fix it. Although freezing issues can indicate a severe problem, most times these issues can be solved fairly simply. Move the Xbox 360. The most common problem with Xbox 360s is that they are positioned in a way that hinders their ventilation, which can cause them to overheat and then freeze. Place your Xbox 360 side down (like the picture above) and place it far away from heat sources. Also make sure that the Xbox 360 is not on carpet or any other soft surface, as this will clog ventilation. Install the game that made the Xbox 360 freeze. With larger games like Star Ocean or the Last Remnant, your Xbox 360 can overload when reading the massive amount of data coming from the disk. Download the game to your hard drive by putting the disc in the tray and then pressing Y at the game's frame on the Xbox 360 dashboard. Choose "Install Game" and then wait while the information is downloaded. With the disc still in the tray, try playing again. Check the disc for damage. If your disc has been severely scratched or scuffed, it could cause your game to freeze up. Hold the disc under a bright light, checking for even the smallest of scratches. If you notice a few scratches, try loading a different game. If the Xbox 360 doesn't freeze, you'll know the damaged disk was the problem. Clear your hard drive's cache. There may be excess data which is causing your system to lock up. Clear the cache by pressing these buttons in order: # On the Xbox 360 controller, press the following items in this sequence:X, X, Left bumper, Right bumper, X, X. A message will pop up asking if you are sure you want to perform the system maintenance. Press A to continue. Disconnect from the Internet. If your Internet connection is experiencing heavy traffic, it might be affecting your game. Try unplugging your cord (or adapter) and then restart your Xbox 360. Note-If the screen freezes repeatedly, and you see three red lights light up after you restart your console, you have experienced total system failure and will need to contact Microsoft Support to see about a repair.
