Xbox Live Connection Problem?

Xbox live connection problem?

  • My son has the older white Xbox, so it is not wireless, Unless we buy the adapter. We chose the Ethernet wired route instead. Now our problem is our high speed modem/router from Time Warner, Our cable company. It only has one port in the back. I purchased a "switch". The connection is- time warner's cable ethernet (that comes into the home)into modem, the switch into that, Ethernet cable (run into son's room into Xbox) into the switch, also into switch is the wi-fi device (we have installed set up by my husband's company) wi-fi worked, Xbox says no Internet connection found. The wi-fi device is the reason I had to buy the switch, time Warner's modem only has one port in it. They said it's the only model they have, so no additional ports. Any ideas? I have been all over both Xbox and time Warner's support websites, talked to both company's customer service depts. HELP PLEASE! He has a year card of Xbox live since Christmas and we have not been able to use and set it up. I don't think a wireless router should have to be bought, since we have a wi-fi device already. Which we didn't have to pay for. And wouldn't two wireless signals mess things up? Is there such a router that is not wireless? All I found for sale are wireless. Any help would be greatly appreciated, by a 12 year old boy, and myself, and I can stop beating my head against the wall!

To be honest, I would recommend just buying the wireless adapter for the XBox. I have used both wireless and ethernet and it just seems the wireless adapter is much less of a hassle for all parties involved. You can usually pick up a deal on one from amazon or ebay. If you buy the set new it will come with an instructional disc that you put into the XBox which will guide you through the set up process. It really will be quite a stress-reliever if you just purchase the adapter and your son will get to enjoy his XBox to the fullest extent that it can be enjoyed (which is quite a lot, i might add) and you will not be stressing out over the internet.

if you have a laptop you can use it to bridge a connection on your xbox instead of buying a wireless device http://support.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-live/connecting/win-computer (you need to scroll down the page a bit) Source(s): xbox.com plus have a bridge connection setup in my bedroom

More than one wireless device shouldn't slow things down since you are using a wired connection right now anyway. I used to have Time Warner Cable and my live connection did not work either so I bought AT&T instead and now it works fine. It may just be your internet provider.

plug the wireless router directly into the modem. bypass the switch, then plug the x box into the router . switches do not assign ip addresses, this is why the x box does not work . Edit, you need a router, wireless or otherwise, with multiple ports, otherwise you will have to dedicate a computer to be a dns server. You can buy a 4 port wireless router for 40 bucks or less off the Internet , remember google is your friend.
