How to fix a broken Xbox 360?

• Ok so ever sense the worrenty went up on my Xbox last year my Xbox has been nothing but trouble. First it started off as just being an open disc tray problem which i fixed by just blowing into the disc tray, but the problem returned a few months ago and now its escalated pretty far. Now when i put a disc into my Xbox 360 it will say reading for about 5 minutes before it says "Disc unrecognizable" Or "Open disc Tray" Or "Play DVD" Or "Play CD" . Than after a few hours of trying to get a game working, it will say play game and then i go through another 30 minutes of disc unreadable. Than when the game finally loads i could be playing for a hour and than my Xbox will stop reading the disc and it will bring me to the dashboard well the Xbox game is still playing in the background and it will say "Disc unreadable". Please help because i feel like flicking my Xbox out the window and burning the B****. May i add that Microsoft said sending it to them would cost 120$ + Tax's so if theirs any at home ways of fixing it it would be greatly appreciated.
