How often can I give my hamster mineral blocks?

Should I give away my new hamster?

  • I relaly love my current hamster, and it is already a fwe months old. I bought a new hamster (same breed) today and left int a small cage, and I put the small cage in a big cage. to prevent them from fighting. The new hamster kept sqeaking. And seemed to be more active than my current one. I was thnking I reeaaallly love my old hamster, so many I should concentrate on one and give awya the new one. I got a new one because I wanted my old hamster to be not so lonely when I am away from home. But, now.. I think maybe I really should concentrate on just one.. I know hamster lovers would want lots of hamsters. But becaus I did not want too many hamsters I bought only one when I decided on buying hamsters. Did I make a wrong decision? I need opinions and advice..

  • Answer:

What breed of hamster is your hammy? If it's a Syrian, then they do not need a buddy. They are extremely territorial and will actually fight to the death. And since you put the small cage in the big cage, your old hamster is probably freaking out because the new one is in its territory, and the new one may be scared. When you adopt a pet, it is a commitment. And you need to think it through and do your research. I would strongly suggest that you keep the second hamster, as another move would be really traumatic for the little guy/girl. However if you simply DO NOT have the time, make sure you adopt it out to someone who knows what their doing and will have the time to take care of it. I hope this helps! And Happy Holidays.

You can keep both, always in different cages.

For the most part hamsters are solitary critters. So your old hamster didn't really need a buddy, but since you already have a cage for him I don't see why wouldn't be able to take care of teh second hamster unless you just don't have any time at all ever... Hamster's don't require alot of time, just enough to handle them, clean their cage and make sure they have food and water. IF you do end up getting rid of one of them keep the old one as he is more attached to you than the new one and next time you decide to buy a pet think about how much time you're going to have to be able to spend with it.

most hamsters like to be alone, if they are put in the same cage they will most likely fight. I dont think you have to worry about him lonly. If your new hamster doesnt make a problem, snd if you dont mind takeing care of two then i say keep them both. If one is bothering give it away. The new one is not help your old one.
