How do I convince my parents to let me get a hamster?

  • So for my whole life I've been wanting a pet, specifically a cat. They always said no. Now I want a hamster and It is a lot smaller than a cat or a dog but i don't know how to convince them. I said I will actually clean the cage and it is not a lie but they don't believe me. A hamster is now what I am obsessed about and I've done so much research I can't give up now. I want a way to convince them soon. I don't really want to wait a year, I barely want to wait a month. They are trying to make me forget about it I KNOW they are. They think if they drop the subject I will forget about it but I won't . THEY ARE DRIVING ME NUTS!!

    i had the same thing and like my mom HATES RODENTS and i wanted a guinea pig so i also research on them and then like i did stuff that i didn't normally do to show them i can take responsibility of getting one so i did my homework and did chores and helped my mom though she didn't want one my dad saw my progress and he really saw that i wanted one so i did it and didn't used my computer a lot [i ALWAYS used my computer every time and didn't wanted to go outside >.<] so i did stuff that my mom liked and she finally said that i could get one; But i Had to clean the cage, wash it, and do everything for it and not take it where she doesn't wants it. And finally they decided to buy me a guinea pig and i was very happy! (: but i think it could be easier for me because I'm an only child and like i guess like i'm a little spoiled. So yeah good luck on getting a hamster you should try this! It's showing them that you are ready to have a pet. :D

Argh - i hate hamsters most evil of the rodents and being nocturnalthey keep you up all night with the chewing and running around in there lil wheel. i had all the rodents you can think of.the best by far are rats.they are smart - really smart, they run to the side of the cage when you walk in the room and come when you call them. i dont think you should pester your parents. they will be less likely to agree the more you irritate (maybe wait until birthday or xmas) FYI instead of wood shavings ina rodent cage use a wooden pellet type cat litter. it is so absorbent i swear by it for rodents.

I wanted chinchillas so bad and my parents finally said yes! Here's what I did and you could do: You could sign a contract saying you will take care of the hamster and clean the cage and stuff and tell your parents if you don't then they can get rid of it. And tell them about the research you've been doing. Tell them how easy they are to take care of. Also tell them that having a pet teaches kids and teens responsibility that they will need later in life.
