What kind of household objects can be turned into guinea pig toys?

How to clean guinea pig toys?

  • I'm getting 2 guinea pigs soon (males) and here are some toys I'm planning to give them. A few of those little balls with bells in them A hidey house Chew toys like plain blocks  A cozy and a cuddle cup Toilet paper roll with hay stuffed in it.  Some stuffed animals Cardboard boxes Paper bags Tennis balls 2 wood tunnels A brick Mirrors  A couple ping pong balls Oatmeal container (holes will be in both sides) A clean sock with a tennis balls in it. The end will be sewed off. (just for dragging) Questions about the toys- How often do I clean the toys and how do I clean them? What do I have to do with all the balls and chew toys? Do I replace them? Do I have to wash the balls? Especially the tennis ball. What do I do with the tennis ball? How do I clean the hidey house And the tunnels? How do I wash the cuddle cups and the cozys?  With all the things that need to be washed... Please give Specific details!!  mild detergent? Fabric softener? what do I need? How often do I replace things like the toilet paper roll with hay  the oatmeal box and the cardboard boxes and the paper bag? What to about the stuffed animals? Do I even need to do anything about the Mirrors and the brick? BQ: Is it safe for Guinea pigs to eat paper? because a lot of owners give them paper balls

  • Answer:

First of all, No mirrors, No soft toys, No tennis balls, No socks, It's not a child it's an animal.... How often do I clean the toys and how do I clean them? I clean the toys when i clean the cage, which is every week, I use pet safe disinfectant. What do I have to do with all the balls and chew toys? Do I replace them? Do I have to wash the balls? Especially the tennis ball. What do I do with the tennis ball? I would definately NOT give them a tennis ball, The plastic balls with the bell inside are fine, Mine were never able to chew through them. i just wash them with water, Spray them with pet safe disinfectant, then rinse them with water again. How do I clean the hidey house And the tunnels? Depends, What is the house and tunnels made from? If plastic then just wash them, if wood, Just spray them/Wipe over it. then leave it to dry. How do I wash the cuddle cups and the cozys? No toys, and what is a cuddle cup? if it is a soft toy like the kind you would give to a child. or stuffed etc. do not give it to the guinea pig, they eat everything and will choke on it. With all the things that need to be washed... Please give Specific details!! mild detergent? Fabric softener? what do I need? No fabric softners, Liquids, Bleaches etc... From your local pet store buy pet safe disinfectant and that is used for the toys and the cage itself. How often do I replace things like the toilet paper roll with hay the oatmeal box and the cardboard boxes and the paper bag? No paper bags!, With the cardboard, you will know when it needs replacing, The guinea pigs would have chewed through it, and it would probably be stained from pee. I wouldn't put hay in the tubes just give them a hay rack-fill it with hay and they'll eat it when they want it. Leave the toilet paper rolls in there on their own. my piggies love to eat them. What to about the stuffed animals? No stuffed animals! Do I even need to do anything about the Mirrors and the brick? No mirrors, No bricks. If you want them to be able to walk on concrete, buy a pen and put them outdoors. BQ: Is it safe for Guinea pigs to eat paper? because a lot of owners give them paper balls. I give mine paper balls. The paper is plain, As newspaper has lots of ink on it and i don't want my pets eating that. thats all your questions answered :) .... I have 3 male piggies. FYI: With 2 males you will need to get them neutred other wise they will fight for dominace and try humping each other. This could hurt the smaller guinea pig!

Any paper or cardboard stuff isnt safe!!!!!! No tennis balls, paper bags, bricks or mirrors!!! Or stuffed animals! They will eat it and clogg up and die!

no mirrors. no bricks. no tennis ball socks. you need to do some research.guinea pigs eat and chew a lot.

Hey, I thought this was an interesting question. Some of the toys you have picked out are awesome and some are just bad!! BAD: brick-they can break there teeth by trying to chew on it Mirrors:They can see themselfs and get scared or they could try and chew on it and hurt there teeth Stuffed Animals: They can chew on it and open it up, eat the stuffing and it can get clogged up in there thoght and die. Tennis Balls: They are big and bulkey. They are ok to roll around but they can chew at them and its just bad for there teeth. Ping Pong Balls:They can try to swallow them and break there jaw Sock with tennis balls: The sock is fine just stuff it with hay instead and dont sew the end Toilet paper roll with hay: The hay is fine but when it is stuffed in far they will try to get in and get stuffed and they will sufficate. So the toys that are left are: Balls with bells(btw fill them with hay and under supervision) Chews toys(Make sure they are the ones that taste like something not like wood blocks),Cozy/cuddle up, Cardboard box (make sure its small),Paper bags (opened) Wood tunnels, Oatmeal container, Sock with HAY in it. Cleaning! Balls with bells: Take a wet paper towel and wash it off. Chew toys: You dont need to clean these but if they have hay stuck to them just take a wet paper towel and wipe it off.You dont need to replace them Cuddle up: You can wash it but no need. If you find it stinking just wash it in the wash with your blankets that you use at the bottom of the cage (if you do that, if you dont wash it a lone). You can dry it with everything else in your dryer. Cardboard box:Same as the chew toys. Unless they are eaten away you dont have to replace them or wash them. Paper bags:Replace these everytime as they lose support and can colapes Woodtunnel: Just wash it off with paper towel and if its ruff wash it off with a washcloth Pigloo: Soak in warm water and dry off. Scrub if needed Oatmeal Container: Just wash inside and outside with wet paper towel Sock with hay in it: Wash sock and dump out hay. No fabric softener. HOPE THIS HELPED.
