How to care for wild baby bunny?

How to care for a baby bunny?

  • I caught my dog with a tiny baby bunny in his mouth. I made him spit it out and luckily the bunny was still alive. At first I thought it was a mouse, but when looked at it closely I realized it was a bunny! Since I don't know where my dog got the bunny from, I would like to know how to care for it and what I should and should not do.

  • Answer:

Take it to a vet to get it checked out or your local animal shelter! Until then keep it wrapped in a warm towel and give it some water. Its probably petrified poor little thing x x

Your best bet is to bring it to the vet. If they let you and you want to keep it, have the vet check him out to see if it's ok to keep him/her. The vet will usually nurse it back to health then let it go. Good luck!

First take it to the vets and get vaccines etc and make sure he's/she's happy for you to keep it and look after it. I had a rabbit when I was younger it lived in a hutch and run outside. I'd recommend one that's off the ground but has run space in since mine which went on the grass meant that other wild rabbits could come up and say hello which gave my rabbit mixi which it died from. The rabbit would also love having some grass so eat so you can cover the bottom of the run with grass so make it like the run is on the ground. You could also get a small pet playpen and have it out on the grass for around 30mins to an hour each day so it can have some fresh grass and you can play with it. http://www.riversidewoodcraft.co.uk/hutches-and-houses/45-rabbit-hutch-on-legs.html The link above is the rabbit hutch and run I suggest that you could get for it to live in. There are also big indoor rabbit cages which you could have it living in the house as it is a baby but it wouldn't have such a nice life as being outside but you could start it off inside and then introduce it slowly to being outside. <-- Just something to think about :) Feeding Dry rabbit food mix from a pet shop <-- Fill up a bowl twice a day with fresh food and throw away any uneaten food Bowl of fresh water <-- Fill the bowl with fresh water every morning or night They like eating fresh vegetables such a carrots Grass and clovers Bedding Sawdust/wood shavings Straw Cleaning Clean the rabbit hutch and run out once a week and replace with fresh bedding Play You can get many toys for rabbits that you can put in the run and also out in the playpen on the grass Handling You can handle rabbits as many times a day as you like but I don't suggest waking them up as they may become grumpy. Treats If you have a snoop about in any pet shop there are lots of different types of rabbit treats that you can give about 1/2 every day alongside normal dried food and fresh vegetables. Good luck :)
