Why is my male guinea pig so moody?

Why is the male guinea pig in halt?

  • Its just staying in one place at the cage I put him? I just had it today and for 30 min. now it isn't moving at all. I also have a 3 year old female guinea pig already there. Is the male scared of the other guinea pig or it just not familiar with the surroundings like the cage, the living room, or people?

    Wait, is the male in the same cage as the female? If so, separate them IMMEDIATELY! The female is WAY too old to breed at this point...by 3 years, her hip bones have closed if she hasn't had a litter in 5 months. The female guinea pig's hip bones close at around 8 months of age, if they have not had a litter before. So please remove the male if he's with the female. Because if the male is over 3 weeks old, he can and WILL get her pregnant and she most likely WILL die without a C-section. Anyways, you've only had it for today. Guinea pigs need time to get used to their surroundings. It's just scared. Guinea pigs "freeze" when they want to try and scare off predators. It make take him a few months to fully adjust, but all guinea pigs are different.

You cannot put a female with a male. They will mate and have lots of babies. Take the male out of there right now!

SEPARATE THE GUINEA PIGS! BREEDING RATE IS WAY TOO HIGH. YOU CANT JUST PUT GUINEA PIGS ON THE FIRST DAY OF HAVING IT! IT TAKES 2 WEEKS FOR A GUINEA PIG TO GET USED TO IT'S SURROUNDINGS LET ALONE WITH ANOTHER GUINEA PIG!??!

if the male is new and the female has been there for a while then the male is scared the female will become territorial if he moves! you need to take them both out and go somewhere where neither of them has been before and let them get used to each other before putting them in a cage together. otherwise you're asking for a guinea pig fight!
