Good nesting material for pregnant rats?

Bedding Fluff for nesting for Rats?

  • I am planning on buying two rats (I have researched my little heart out for a couple weeks now) and I have decided to use a fleece blanket for their cage's bedding (for money efficiency and easy cleaning) however, they also need a nesting supply. Would Bedding Fluff be alright or is there something specific I should think about using?

    Actually bedding fluff is very dangerous for small animals. The fibers can wrap around their feet an cut off curculation and if ingested, it's not only toxic but will cause a bowel obstruction. I give my girls strips of fleece or old t shirts to nest with. There is also a beding called Eco something... It's like krinkley strips of recycled paper... That could also be used for nesting, but it's not as cozy or soft.

I am not sure but I don't think bedding fluff is safe. You can use scraps of fleece, shredded newspaper, toilet paper, paper towels or a soft bedding like carefresh Please adopt. That's not very safe at all, Use eco bedding http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3157992 or use one of these carefresh nesting http://www.carefresh.com/products/environmental-enrichment/ There much safer then fluffy bedding.

Fluffy bedding isnt safe and will kill your rat etc!!! Use carefresh or aspen please for the sake of your pet!!!

My rats love bits and scraps of fleece, but I've never had or seen a rat who took to the bedding fluff. Mostly they just rip it up and hide it. Fleece is all over my rats' cages. Shred newspaper if they like it, or tissue paper. Some rats do and some don't.
