How to tell when a hamster is pregnant?

How can I tell if my female "Syrian" hamster is pregnant?

  • I bought a male "Syrian" hamster and female "Syrian" hamster from the same PETCO about 1 month or 2 ago. They' ve done their thing a few times now(if you know what I mean). Once they did it in the car, then in the cage. She started rejecting him and not letting him mount her anymore. I didn't see any action for a couple days, and then I notice them doing it again. This time she let him mount her and do his thing. It has been about 4 days to a week and underneath her stomach looks bigger, but I don't know if she is pregnant or just eating a lot. Also I have noticed her storing food in her cheeks. I NEED A REALLY GOOD ANSWER...PLEASE HELP ME! (I have called PETCO and they said that breeding is not recommended and that they are not justified to answer my question) :-( I REALLY WANT TO KNOW!!...PLEASE HELP!!

    well hampsters only carry the baby(s) for 16 days (yes short) so she is prob preggo so just seperate her from the male (really they shouldent be in the same cage in the first place hampsters are solitary creatures!) so just seperate them so they dont fight and iff you make the mam to be upset when she has her babys she will eat them! so dont desterb her or touch her or clean her cage or touch her babys for like the first week or so just read up on it hope i could help! :D Kada

Yep! She is pregnant. Separate the 2 immediately and research A LOT! Don't touch the babies for the first 5-8 weeks or mom will eat them. Hope this helps

Wow. They have done it in the car, in the cage.... Where else did they do it? In the movie theatre or nightclub VIP room? lol. Sorry to go off topic. Anyways, you can tell if she is pregnant, is her stomach gets bigger each day. Also, her cheeks have to be fuller, so measure them as well while she puts her food under them. Hope to help, and I wish your hamster luck giving birth soon.
