Help finding lost hamsters?
-
My hamsters got out and I cannot find them anywhere... an I worry they might be dead... They live on top of my dogs crate, the biggest crate they make, so they might have fallen through the bars and been eaten..? (I have 3 dogs that all want to kill the hamsters, and 3 cats) BUT - my cats are dumb as dirt and can't even catch bugs/spiders - my dogs all acted like they thought the hamsters were still hiding... (I put them on a leash and let them sniff around, they ell seem to think it is in the corner with the closet and chair) - there is no blood ANYWHERE! all my pets like to play with the animals they kill... (animals in the backyard that I couldn't save from them. I used to have a pet bird, when I came home the feathers where spread through 4 rooms) What I have done: - put out plastic bags all over so I can hear them - put out apple slices on some of the bags - put flour in any walk way I suspect them to use - put out 5 piles of 10 sunflower seeds (with a circle of flour around) - I have the cage on the ground (also with flour around, in case I manage to miss when they go in, to reassure that they are alive) I don't have any peanuts or yarn(so I cannot tie string to peanuts and have the string lead me to their hiding spot). I can't find a bucket/tote to do that trick either... are there any other things that you have found to work or help? Thank you!

Answer:
Slightly crazy keeping hamsters in the same room as dogs/cats! You need to make a bucket trap with food. You can't do this with dogs and cats in the house though as they will eat the hamster once it falls into the bucket. Go to hamster central.com they have info on how to make a bucket trap. Good luck finding the little guy!!

Wow. I have a hamster, Hammie. It seems like you are doing a great job. But unfortunately, You are going to have to wait. I'm sorry to say, but Hank might not come back. Hamsters are not very intelligent animals, i must say. Just wait. Buy a new cage for Scotty-from Petsmart, NOT Petco. Also, talk to the staff at Petsmart. They know a lot.
You sound like you've done a good job. You just need to wait. look under furniture, in dark warm places (under the fridge, behind the washing machine) Close all doors in the house. (That will keep the hamsters in the room that they are in). Otherwise I can't think of anything else to do. Put seeds in the corners of the rooms and in dark places, then check it often to see if there are any shells open. Becareful when you walk incase you step on one. Good luck
My brothers hamster got out from the cage as well but the hamster is really lost so sorry it will never come back...
just put some food in a line leading up to the cage and some in it and when hank is hungry enough he will com in
