Can you trust www.branddream.com?

Would my rats be okay if I leave for 5 days? Not sure if I can trust anyone to take care of them....?

  • Hi, I have two 22 month old male rats. I really want to go and visit my older sister soon for 5 days for personal reasons but I'm worried about my boys; my boys need to be on antibiotics for the rest of their lives due to chronic Respiratory problems, and I'm not sure if I can trust anyone to give them their meds on time, they need to take their meds every 12 hours. Also the meds causes my boys poop to be loose so I need to give them a type of powder called Bene-Bac every other day to help with that. not sure if I can trust anyone to do any of that.... I'm also not sure if I can trust anyone to clean out their cage (Double Critter Nation) when needed, I always pick up all the poo every day and I usually change their fleece every other day. I still live with my parents and my brother. However, I can't trust my dad nor my brother to take care of my rats while I'm gone (if I go), because they're both lazy, both seem to be addictive to their computer games (MMORPG's), and they both get upset when asked to do anything. The only person in my family that I might be able to trust is my mom. The only problem with leaving my boys in my moms care is that my mom has Arthritis, a minor case of Scoliosis, and one other disease that I can't recall the name of. And she's in pain a lot and has a hard time bending down to clean anything. I also doubt she'll want to be up at 5:30 AM every day giving them their meds.. Also, another thing I'm worried about is my Sam would have to be stuck in the cage the whole time I'm gone. My Sam hates being stuck in the cage when he's not sleeping and begs at the cage door all the time when I can't take him out at that moment (i,e. when I'm busy, trying to sleep). I think my other boy would be okay. Do you think Sam would be okay? Also, Should I even go visit my sister? Not sure if I can trust anyone to take care of my boys. My mom. but like I said she's in pain a lot of the time.... and I don't really have any friends.. Thanks

    You could always take your pets with you. This will save you from worrying and will make them happier than they would otherwise be at home getting no attention (Sam). (I assume you are driving to your sisters, of course if you went by aircraft this wouldn't work)

I have a smaller cage that I can take with me if I go away for a few days, it shouldn't cost too much, a basic hamster type cage should do the job. for a few days that will be fine. mine were in one for a coulple of weeks because I couldn't afford to replace the cage they chewed out of two days before Christmas, so had to get a small one so they had somewhere to live while I saved up for a few weeks. it's always a good idea to have a smaller cage on hand anyway. not only is it useful if you need to take them away with you, but it's also good if they're recovering from an injury or get unsteady in their old age.

I think you should take them with you. Or trust someone but if your so worried about trusting someone else you should write down a schedule on the medicine and teach her to clean the cage the right way.
