What are some tips on taking care of a hamster?

Taking hamster on 9,000 mile roadtrip?

  • I am moving and the trip will take I think 2 weeks. I am taking my dog...leaving my betta fish and snail and not sure about the hamsters, I have 2 and they both need seperate cages. One of the hamsters I love and do not want to leave..The other one I do not even care he is so timid if you put a treat in his cage he hides from the food..the others curious and not timid at all. Should I take one..or both? Tips for long trips with a hamster? Should I use a travel carrier or just put his cage in the car?

    No you should leave them at ur friends, family members house. its really hard to take animals on a trip. plus have a dog and that will be stressful therefore dont take ur hamsters unlesss u want them to get sick.

If i were you i would be a little concerned because i honestly don't think a hamster could last that long in the car. I have had three hamsters and two of them traveled a short distance well, but i would not think 9,000 miles. Hope this helped! Good luck! ;)

the trip might be stress full for them or just that one hamster that you love ....to much stress causes wet tail. you can try but it could be a short life for them =( the best thing to do is ask the pet store people or the vet and see what they say..otherwise i wouldnt go on that trip with them. im sorry i hope you be fine

Leave them all there. Traveling is a very stressful process and too much stress is very bad for hamsters. Have someone care for them for you.

Moving is really hard. If you're a really dedicated pet owner, though, bring your dog and one hamster. If you bring all three, then I think your going to have a really hard time.
