Why are my boy and girl hamsters fighting?

My 2 girl dwarf russian hamsters are fighting very much!!!?

  • i got 2 girl hamsters (russian dwarfs) and they haven't got along! for 4 days the weak and defensive one has a little bleeding in its genitals. now i just got them out of a fight, and se has a completely red tail, with no hair on it as it used to.... what do i do?? should i take the "bad" one back to the store without asking for my money of course? or should i leave them at peace?

  • Answer:

Don't listen to Sandy. Separate them. Hamsters are notorious for fighting, and there is a good chance that they'll kill each other. You should never put two hamsters together. No, don't take one back. Its your fault for not researching enough to know not to put them together. That hamster shouldn't have to go back because of your mistake. Get another cage.

Don't listen to Sandy OR Lilly. More often than not, two dwarfs from the same litter can get along. It's only Syrians that don't like to be together. Depending on where you got them, there may be a guarantee. Mine have a 14-day guarantee, I got them from a small local pet store. Petsmart also has a 14-day guarantee. Take the offensive one back and tell them she's a fighter. They should either refund your money or give you a gentler one. If you have no guarantee, buy them separate tanks, and you might want to get the weaker one checked out by a vet... It is also possible that you got a guy and a girl. When they're young, it's hard to tell. The pet store may have sold them both as girls, but one may be a guy. Do whatever you can to keep the weaker one safe- you're responsible for them!

I would say leave them together in the cage. They are just fighting to see who's gonna be the alpha of the cage. In a couple of weeks they will stop. They are just fighting for territory. Hope I helped!

They won't take it back, Just buy another cage and seperate the two of them before they kill one another mine:http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AiuTIMB_UGiXcFdP3v3t7PASxgt.;_ylv=3?qid=20090611072730AAppHgM
