Why does my hamster keep falling asleep randomly?

I need a new hamster cage soon please help:)?

  • i got my hamster like mouths ago and i got her this cage http://images.bizrate.com/resize?sq=500&uid=1000082394 with this attachment cause she slept in the wheel http://www.petworldshop.com/pictures/crittertrail-expansion-kits.jpg. and her cage keeps on falling apart and it is going to break so. plus she chews on the cage and that is only making things worse cause she is shakeing the top part. and she keeps me up all night. i am going back to school soon and i need to be able to sleep at night. i have to keep her in my room. and i need a good cage that will last and be safe and easy to clean and move. and at as low price as possible but the main thing is that the cage is safe and reliable. please help me find a cage that will work thanks:)

I would actually recommend a fish tank rather than a cage if you're looking for something that will last and be roomy enough for your hamster and easy to clean. A 10 gallon fish tank is more than enough room for a hut, a wheel, bowl and bottle, and lots of toys. Sure, it isn't as pretty as all of those cheap colourful plastic cages, but like you said; they are hard to clean and they fall apart really easily. If you wanted to make it pretty you can put window clingers on it and personalize the outside of the tank. For ventilation, there are screen or wire tank lids that you can buy that allow air flow in while keeping out bugs and other animals if you have any. Most people whine and complain that fish tanks are not good homes for rodents because of the lack of ventilation but I have had many hamsters over the years and the ones I have kept in fish tanks lived full lives and died of old age rather than illness due to lack of ventilation. You can get a 10 gallon tank and screen lid for under $30.00.

DO NOT use Aquarium Fish Type cages. They have poor ventilation and the odors of the urine will bother your hamster's respiratory system. I have the Critter Trail 3 cage, it's great! But it's very big, I recommend these cages: Critter Trail Discovery Deluxe Habitat - http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=21129 Critter Trail Z - http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=14614 Both of these cages come with a wheel, sleeper, food dish, and water bottle. If a wheel is ever too loud or noisy, drop 2 drops of VEGGIE OIL on the spinner part, and it will stop squeaking. Before you go to bed, put your hamster in a hamster ball for 1/2 an hour so she will get more tired. If she chews on the cage bars, give her lots of interesting chew toys. Never put hot sauce or lemon juice on the cage bars, because they are very toxic to hamsters. if the hamster still chews on the bars it's best to move the cage into a bathroom tub or another room. Good Luck with everything!

I heard crittertrail cages are very bad for rodents. But anyways, if you're going to keep your hamster in your room then I don't think you'll ever be able to sleep very well. As you know, hamsters are nocturnal so will be awake at night. They will be running on their wheel all night long and that will and can cuase quite a bit of noise, even with a silent wheel. So, here are a few cages that will work: http://www.amazon.com/Biddie-Buddies-Townhouse-Habitat-Hamsters/dp/B001E36KEC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1282566402&sr=8-1 I am currently using that Biddie Buddies cage. Assembling can be a little bit hard if you have never assembled anything before (like me), and some pieces required me to use a tiny bit of force to fit in, but you will never have to re-assemble completely. To clean you just pop the locks and you can clean the plastic base and the wires. The add-on can be kinda hard to clean though, but the cage is worth it. Along with that, the cage door is a bit higher, so your hamster will not be able to escape. Also it's on sale, so not very expensive! :) http://www.amazon.com/Gerbil-Hamster-Mice-Habitat-Levels/dp/B003E1GT7K/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1282566402&sr=8-4 This one looks cool (3 level), but the person who reveiwed it only gave it a 3. He/she said that it got very messy (I see how that could be). So if you don't mind cleaning up more often, then this could be a good one too. However, I've never used this so I really don't know about this. However, most of the time it works out best when people buy a fish tank aqaurium. There are no bars your hamster can chew on and you can give them lots of bedding for them to dig and burrow in. A 15 or 20 gallon would be adequete for a hamster. EDIT: BriannaG, both those cages are really bad. The first one has wire bases, with is ABSOLUTELY terrible for all rodents. The second one is way too small for its price. ♥♥~~♥♥ Answering.

Same thing with me but i just got mine a 50 dollar cage but down below in the source box is a url for only 21.00 but, This cage comes with 2 wheels and every thing., The second url is 17.00 but it comes with a wheel 2 dishes. But is a very good size. Okay that's all i have and i hoped i helped but i had the same problem maybe get her one of these cages or get her a 10 gallon tank. Hope you get sleep, Animal l<3ver

Why did Amy's answer get so many thumbs down?!?! I have always had my hamsters in aquariums too, and I personally think that it is the best housing for them. If you give them a potty (or a jar, which is what I do) and empty it several times a day, and use paper bedding, there will be no risk of respiratory infections. If you have a dwarf, a 10 gallon aquarium is big enough, but if you have a Syrian, you will want to go a little bigger. With a wire top the ventilation is fine, and actually the glass keeps out harmful drafts. Get a silent spinner wheel and put a paper towel under the bedding where it goes, and you won't hear your hamster at all. I have done a lot of research on hamsters, and in my opinion, aquariums are the best way to go. You can get a nice 10 gallon tank and topper for $13 at Petco.

buy an aquarium,u can order the size judging ur place that u providing for ur hams
