What toys should I get for my hamster?

I want to get a Hamster, what do i need to buy to get started and what do i need to know about hamsters?

  • Ok, i really want to get a hamster, but I'm lost with what to do after i buy it. What things do i need to buy to get started, and what do i need to know about hamsters? What kind of toys do i need, and what do i need to do to make my room "hamster safe"? I'm lost! Thank you!

  • Answer:

What you need to buy Is a Cage ( no aquariums ) Bedding ( no pine or cedar. ) A wheel Waterbottle Chew stick Hide away toys ; toilet paper rolls . Tissues. ping pong balls Hamster wheel To hamstersafe your room block all of the gabs that she could get under for instance behind the tv with wires, under the door, closet . etc. make sure there are no molds or other creatures to mess with the hamster. make sure there are no wires, just like how you'd keep a baby room. no small objects. vacuumed.and no air fresheners. be supervising. About hamsters Hamsters like humans can be love-able or mean dwarf hamsters tend to bite more if you are looking for a hamster to cuddle head for a syrian aka teddy hamster.

Hamsters make the best of pets! I absolutley love my Hammies to death!! there are plenty Hamster care guides online that you'll find more useful then myself XD it tells you the basics of feeding to breeding, to bonding and training. Shopping for there things is a blast, there are so many cute things to buy now ! First you need a cage ( obvi lol) try and stay away from the critter trails. Although they look pleasing to the eye, there just way to small and cramped for the Hamster. I went through 3 cages until I found ones that suited my Hamsters perfect. I never went with a modular cage ( as I said, I found the tubes and platforms to small) I went with just 2 standard cages that were 25" L X 12.5" H X 12.5" W Petsmart sells them for 30$ You may not want to go that large but remember that the cage must be big enough to have a wheel, dishes, a hut for them to hide in and some wood chews. some of the hanging wooden bird toys I found were awsome for my hammies to play with, I really dont find that toys keep my hamsters attention at all, they have more fun shredding tissue paper and toilet paper rolls than a 6 $ toy. You also have to decide which food you would like to use. I use Vita-Vittles from LM Animal Farms, and Ive found so far that they enjoy it the most along with some small cut veggies. And for bedding ( although people make a big fuss over it ) I use CareFRESH, many people dont like but I find this to be the best. Like I said, you can probably get better info from a Hamster guide on the internet, but I hope I helped a little bit !

Obviously you need the cage. The bedding, and a water bottle. Hamsters eat hamster food like berry mix, carrot crunchies, salt wheels, yogurt chips, cheese for hammys found at the pet section in walmart. They also eat unsalted nuts, fruits and vegetables such as lettuce, strawberries, apples, oranges, and coconut. They need a ball or/and a wheel to exercise You need to clean the cage once a week. They bite so wash your hands before grabbing them so that they don't smell food on your hand. Then put nuts or a treat on your hands for them to eat in your hands. Stroke it's fur meanwhile it's eating on your hands, that way it starts to trust you and get tamed.

Your okay! don't panic! Thing hamster need: 1st they need a cage a nice sturdy one they are maybe 20-35 dollars or something. 2nd you need some food get some real good food that you think they will like don't get any other kind with stuff like chunks of peanuts or something that doesn't Look good ok 5-10 $ 3rd you will need some bedding that probably about 10-15 or something don't get any kind of bedding they can't have. Extra things: chew toys (5-7)$? little treats (5-7)$? nail clippers (?) anything else that's good for them just do Research:) hope this helped a lot!

You will need a good sized cage. Bars should be under 1/2" in spacing. Try: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3057122&ab=hp_lv_smallpet or http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2754666&ab=hp_lv_smallpet Bedding is also a need. NO WOOD SHAVINGS OF ANY KIND, FOR ANY REASON, EVER!! Using carefresh is good, but you can also put down towels in the bottom, provided you remember to wash them at least once a week, and give some extra bedding fluff, as hamsters like to burrow. You will need a water bottle. I suggest either glass or an outside-mounted water bottle to avoid replacing them for chewing issues. Try to get one with a floater on top. That keeps the water from stagnating and also lets you know where the water level is. Try: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753341&lmdn=Small+Pet For feeding, I like the gravity bin: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753272 You can/should also get a metal or ceramic dish for fresh foods. Remember that hamsters are omnivorous, so occasional eggs, liver, etc. are good treats. As far as toys, I suggest wood-based toys. Avoid anything dyed. Try: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3155595 or http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753482&lmdn=Small+Pet Salt licks and mineral licks are not necessary. Neither are chew blocks, but all of my small animals like them. Hamster balls are the best way to keep your room hamster safe - put the hamster in the ball, and they can't get lost or chew on anything they shouldn't. Hamsters should have a wheel either inside or outside of their cage. These are excellent: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753369 Don't get a wheel that's wire. Too many foot issues. Another thing I've found: small animals much prefer cheap things to toys. Try paper towel rolls, tissue boxes (and tissues, for that matter), brown packaging paper, etc. Just make sure there's no plastic or tape attached.

haha I had a hamster wheel I was like 10, it was the best thing I have ever bought. they are a little noisy because they run on there wheel at night so I wouldn't keep the cage in your room, also there cage will start to smell. they like to bite on wood so leave like little blocks of wood in there or something for then to bite on. they also like to bite on the bars of the cage so that's another reason why to leave something in there cage to bite on and a ball (so they can roll around in) to get started you need a cage, bedding (you can use shredded news pap per) you need a food dish and you need a water thing for the cage, the biting blocks, and of course the hamster and a name for the little guy....... oh and i almost forgot you need like a long thing to clean out the tubes of there cage (only if its 2 stores). some things you need to know is that they stuff the food in there mouth and take it to there bed so dont get worried about thet. i cant think of anything else. if you have any more questions then email me, my email is [email protected] I wish you the best of luck with your little guy or girl.

Cage Wheel Exercise ball Bedding Food Treats Food bowl Water bottle Toys (houses, bells, wood chews, etc) Go research them before you get them. EDIT: Don't listen to ţħë đèŁịçíöÜş™ they can have aquariums as cages b/c they can't escape from them if you have something heavy on top. They are also easier to clean then tubed ones and usaully hamsters get stuck in the tubed ones or don't even use them.
