Facebook isn't showing any notifications. How do i fix this!?!?

OK, well, every time someone comments on one of my status', or a picture, or anything of value, it never comes up as a notification. The only notifications i get are spam. The only way to retreive these notifications are to go via my email linked up with my facebook account. It has been like this for more then a week. What can i do??
