Why wont my webcam let me take a pic to upload to facebook?

so i go to add photo/video and click use webcam. When i click that, my Laptop freezes for 10-20 secs (give or take) and then i get some message saying like memory can not be read or something like that. The webcam does work because i use it for skype and it works fine.

many factors are there: 1.maybe your webcam is not detected by your p.c. 2.you must take a pic to your wall 3. lastly maybe you need a new webcam
