How do I know if my facebook message has been send?

I tried to send a message on facebook to someone I am not friends with on facebook. I clicked on the persons profile, then on 'send a message' and typed in my message. I clicked on send and the message disappeared out of the text field but the empty text field remained. There was no 'message has been send' nor did I find the message under my 'sent messages'. I really need to know if the message has been send or not and if not how else can I send the message? please help me! Thanks!

it probably didn't send try again to be sure. and say in the message that you were wondering if it did send.
